Freeform knitting and crochet has been growing in popularity since the 1970's. It's definitely the wilder side of the fiber arts. There are no lines, no patterns and no rules. Anything goes. Freeform pieces can have beading, felting, embroidery and found objects in them. Freeform knitting and crochet has been growing in popularity since the 1970's. Metropolis Coat

Level: Experienced to Expert
Sat Aug 2 and 9
10:00 am - 5 pm

Instructor: Pat Werner
Fee: $150 + tax

The design for this coat took root in my imagination while I was in the city of Berlin, Germany. This ancient city, with its centuries-old cathedral spires juxtaposed with futuristic skyscrapers, spoke volumes to my architectural background. This coat incorporates two different modules that link beautifully together in a symphony of color. The pattern for all shapes in this coat is almost consistently one double row of garter followed by two double rows of stockinette. The cube lids are all garter. Each diagonal row of modules is begun at the bottom edge of the coat and always to the right of the previous diagonal row of modules. The rows of modules are assembled diagonally from right to left. The frog buttons and button band finishing is uniquely different from all my other designs. Further information can be picked-up at Village Wools.

Student Supplies:Worsted weight yarns in variegates and complimentary solids in light, medium and dark colors; two US 5 double pointed needles; one US 5 circular needle; two US 6 double pointed needles; size F or G crochet hook; ten stitch holders or large safety pins; post-it-notes; tapestry needle; scissors; tape measure; and calculator.
